When I connect to gopher://empire.nysernet.org:2347/7 and search for
``SPECmark'' I get back:

<title>Gopher search for SPECmark</title>
<ul>
<li> <a href=gopher://error:error/0specmar"%20returned%20nothing***> *** Your search on "7 </a>
</ul>

However when I use xgopher to make the same search it works.

The fact that it says ``Your search on "7'' seems to indicate that
chimera is sending the wrong thing at veronica somehow.

From: "Michael A. Patton" <MAP@nic.dsi.net>

I just picked up Chimera to play around with it. When I got to the
point in INSTALL where it said "Check to see if the compile succeeded.
Type: src/chimera" I assumed it had lost because it seemed to treat
everything as text/plain (i.e. shows all the markup). This was true
of pages from my server (it _did_ get my home page by default), as
well as the page http://www.unlv.edu/ (which I tried 'cause it was
mentioned in the doc). As soon as I realised it wanted the "content"
file installed before this would work, I did that and everything seems
much better. I'd suggest a slight improvement in the writing
there...is there an option that could be used to get the version of
the "content" file in the source dir, so it looks right?

It actually seems to have gotten a bit late, so I won't finish up
building it right now, but after that slight hurdle it looks good.
We're investigating using the web as a document delivery system to our
network users, and having some options for what they run as a user
interface will be good.

I would not mind the odd core dump nearly as much if the bookmark file

I've just been trying out chimera and its great for previewing files
on my Linux machine at home. Unfortunately it appears unable to cope
with links where the reference begins with '~' for example home pages.

A reference such as <a href=~paule/>My home page</a> appearing on a
page on our server is expanded by other clients, such as Mosaic or
lynx, to http://www.st.nepean.uws.edu.au/~paule/.

Chimera misses a '/' giving http://www.st.nepean.uws.edu.au~paule/
not surprisingly it then gives an error message saying it couldn't
load the document.

Chimera has been compiled from the standard source on Linux v1.0 using
the 4.5.24 libraries supplied with Slackware 1.2.0.

Is this a known problem, and is there a fix?

Thanks.

Paul.

This has already been reported but thanks for the report.

Development has been really slow lately but I will hopefully release
a version soon that will fix this. Don't hold your breath, though,
because I've said this before and it didn't happen.

I'm getting intermittent crashes using Chimera 1.49 under Open Windows.
This is happening to with a version I compiled under SunOS 4.1.3_U1
using the bundled C compiler and with a version I compiled under
Solaris 2.3 using GCC 2.4.5.

This seems to be related to the size of the HTML and/or the number and
complexity of images (graphics in general) in the page.

Anyone have any ideas?

I've had it crash on a number of occasions on SunOS and AIX machines.
I'm not sure where the problem is but I will look into it.

Thanks for the report.

Bug in pbmplus, Sunos apparently accepts fflush() on a filedescriptor
opened for reading, but Ultrix does not.
It may occur on other systems as well.
ch@efd.lth.se can tell you more about it.

I click in 'Skicka felrapport'.
Does anyone know why?

From what had been said here, plus my rather sloppy observation, I thought
the bookmark file was just being trashed when chimera crashed. Just now I
added a bookmark, did a couple of things without dismissing the bookmark
window, then pressed the quit button. When I reentered chimera the bookmark
was empty. We either need a save button or simply to save all bookmarks
upon submission.

The version I am working on now saves the bookmark list when it
is modified.
